Jaipur has no shortage of forts, palaces, and temples to visit. The old walled city itself is the main attraction, with the Hawa Mahal, City Palace, and Jantar Mantar all within walking distance of each other. Amber Fort, 11 km north, is the most spectacular fort in the area and easily reached by auto-rickshaw or local bus.
For something different, hot air balloon flights over the surrounding countryside offer views of forts and villages from above. The Elefantastic elephant sanctuary near Amber is a more ethical alternative to the fort's elephant rides. The bazaars of the old city are an attraction in themselves -- the colors, noise, and energy of Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar are unforgettable.
