Tripolia Bazaar

The old city's most atmospheric bazaar, specializing in lac bangles, brassware, and leather

Address Tripolia Bazaar, Pink City, Jaipur

Tripolia Bazaar runs from the Tripolia Gate (one of the old city's main entrances) eastward through the heart of the Pink City. It's the most varied and atmospheric of Jaipur's bazaar streets — less focused than Johari Bazaar (jewelry) or Bapu Bazaar (textiles), and correspondingly busier and more chaotic.

The specialty here is lac bangles — the heavy, colorfully lacquered bangles that are a hallmark of Rajasthani women's dress. Workshops along the street make them to order; you can watch craftspeople heating lac and pressing it into shape around a wooden form, then decorating with mirrors, glass, and metallic dust. Custom orders are possible within a day.

The street also has good brassware, marble inlay work, and a range of craft goods. The Tripolia Gate itself, with its three arched entrances (hence the name), is one of the handsomest of the old city's seven gates.
