Desert Boy's Dhani

Traditional Rajasthani thali restaurant in a dhani-style courtyard setting

Desert Boy's Dhani is a restaurant set up to resemble a traditional Rajasthani dhani — a small rural settlement with low mud-plastered walls, charpoys (string beds) to sit on, and earthenware pots. The performance aspect is obvious, but the food underneath it is genuinely good: unlimited thalis with a rotating selection of Rajasthani dishes, freshly made rotis, and local sweets including ghevar (a flour and sugar honeycomb pastry) when in season.

This is one of the better places in Jaisalmer to try Rajasthani food in its proper range rather than the stripped-down tourist version. The unlimited nature of the thali means you can try a little of everything and go back for what you liked. The outdoor seating is pleasant in the evening when the temperature drops. Located in the lanes west of the fort, it is a short walk from most old-city guesthouses.
