Saffron, on the rooftop of the Hotel Nachana Haveli near the fort's Hawa Pol gate, is one of the more reliable of Jaisalmer's rooftop restaurants. The fort wall is close enough that you feel you could reach out and touch it, and in the evening when the stone is lit up, the setting is genuinely impressive. The menu covers Rajasthani staples — dal baati churma (lentils, wheat-flour balls, and clarified butter), gatte ki sabji, ker sangri (a local desert bean and berry pickle-stir-fry) — as well as the usual traveller dishes and pizzas.
The food is competent rather than exceptional, but the combination of reasonable quality and an unbeatable view makes this one of the most popular spots in the old city. Prices are on the higher side for Jaisalmer. Book ahead in the peak season (October–February) as the terrace fills early in the evenings.
