The Savitri Temple sits on top of a steep hill that rises directly behind the town, dedicated to Brahma's first wife (or according to some accounts, his consort who was absent from the ceremony described in the Brahma Temple legend). The climb takes about 30-40 minutes on a stepped path from the town centre; a ropeway has also been installed for those who prefer not to walk.
The temple itself is relatively modest, but the views from the hilltop are the real reward. From up here, Pushkar spreads below in a bowl between the Aravalli hills, the lake a silver disk in its centre, with the surrounding desert stretching away to the south and west. The view at sunrise or sunset justifies the early start or late climb; on the full moon nights of the fair, the scene below is remarkable.
The path to the top starts near the Rosa Garden on the western side of town. Wear shoes with grip and start before 8am in summer — the exposed path gets very hot. Monkeys are present in numbers on the path and near the temple; secure your belongings and don't feed them.
