Malik Talao is the smallest of Ranthambore's three main lakes, but it has a devoted following among birders and wildlife photographers. The marshes around its edges attract marsh crocodiles, mugger hatchlings, and a variety of waterbirds including the Indian skimmer during winter. Leopards are seen more frequently in this zone than around the larger lakes, which tend to draw all the tiger activity.
The zone covering Malik Talao is often less crowded with safari vehicles than the premium tiger zones, which makes for a more peaceful experience. If you want to sit quietly and watch the lake come alive at dawn without the convoy of other jeeps, this is the part of the park to request.
