Shilpgram is an open-air crafts village on the outskirts of Sawai Madhopur, set up to preserve and promote traditional Rajasthani artisan skills. Potters, weavers, block printers, leatherworkers, and sculptors maintain workshops here, and you can watch them at work and buy directly from the craftspeople.
The atmosphere is considerably more relaxed than in the souvenir-saturated bazaars of Jaipur or Jodhpur. The range of crafts on offer represents the rural traditions of eastern Rajasthan specifically: cotton durreys, papier-mâché animals, terracotta figurines, and wooden toys painted in the earthy palette of the Hadoti region. It is an easy half-morning combined with the nearby natural history museum.
