The quieter, more residential western shore of Lake Pichola — Hanuman Ghat is reached by crossing the Daiji bridge from the main city. Fewer tourist shops, more daily life: women washing pots at the water's edge, kids playing cricket in the lanes, old men sitting outside doorways.
A small Hanuman temple at the foot of the steps gives the neighbourhood its name. The view back across the lake to the City Palace is one of the best — and most often photographed — angles in Udaipur, particularly at sunrise.
