Maharana Pratap Memorial (Moti Magri)

On the hill of Moti Magri ("Pearl Hill") overlooking Fateh Sagar lake stands a bronze equestrian statue of Maharana Pratap, the 16th-century Mewar ruler who refused to submit to the Mughal emperor Akbar and spent his life fighting from the hills. The setting is more interesting than the statue itself — landscaped gardens, a small museum on Rajput warfare, and a fine view across the city.

A 20-minute walk up from the entrance. Best at sunset, with the light catching the Aravalli ridges to the west.

A story
The bronze statue at the summit shows Pratap astride his beloved horse Chetak, who, after losing one leg to an elephant's tusk during the 1576 Battle of Haldighati, carried his master 22 km to safety before collapsing and dying. Both rider and horse are still venerated as heroes of Rajput resistance against the Mughals.
