The Doon School

Founded in 1935 and modelled on the English public school, Doon has educated more Indian prime ministers, journalists, and senior civil servants per square foot than perhaps any other school in Asia. Rajiv Gandhi, Vikram Seth, Karan Thapar, and Amitav Ghosh are all Old Boys.

The campus is closed to casual visitors, but the surrounding cantonment area — leafy, low-walled, with bougainvillea spilling over every gate — is one of the more pleasant parts of the city to walk through. The streets feel like a small English town transplanted to the foothills.
