Camel's Back Road

Three-kilometre car-free walking circuit above Mussoorie's rooftops with Himalayan views

Camel's Back Road is a three-kilometre walking route above the Mall Road that runs between Library Bazaar and Picture Palace. It takes its name from a rocky outcrop that resembles a camel's hump. The road is largely free of vehicles and the views north toward the Himalayan snows, when visible, are excellent.

Walking the circuit in the early morning is the best time — before the mist comes in, before the town fully wakes, with the snow peaks catching the light. The road passes the Camel's Back cemetery, a quiet British-era graveyard with headstones going back to the 1840s. The circuit takes around an hour at a relaxed pace.
