Kasmanda Palace

Gothic Revival palace built for a maharaja, now a heritage hotel open to visitors

Kasmanda Palace was built in 1836 as Christ Church before being converted into a palace for the Maharaja of Kasmanda in the early 20th century. The building mixes Gothic Revival ecclesiastical architecture with later additions, set in gardens with views across the valley. It is now a heritage hotel, but day visitors can walk the grounds and take tea.

The palace museum displays weaponry, hunting trophies, and period furniture from the royal household. The building's conversion from church to aristocratic palace to heritage hotel neatly encapsulates the layered history of Mussoorie. The surrounding gardens are pleasant and less manicured than the hotel's more formal areas.
