Jhansi is primarily a railway city. Jhansi Junction (officially Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi, station code VGLJ) sits on the main Delhi-Chennai trunk line and the Jhansi-Mumbai line, making it one of the better-connected cities in the Gangetic plain for rail travel. Trains to Delhi (Shatabdi, about 4 hours), Agra (2.5 hours), Gwalior (1 hour), Bhopal (3.5 hours), and Varanasi (8–9 hours) are frequent and reliable. The Shatabdi Express is the most comfortable option on the Delhi–Jhansi corridor.
For Khajuraho, the situation is less straightforward: there is no direct train. Most travellers take a bus (about 5 hours, several operators daily from the bus stand near the railway station) or book a shared taxi. The road via Nowgong is in reasonable shape. A private taxi to Khajuraho costs around ₹2,500–3,000 one-way.
Jhansi Airstrip is a military facility and not open for civilian flights. The nearest functioning civil airport is Gwalior (97 km, about 2 hours by road). For those arriving from Delhi by air rather than rail, Gwalior airport is the practical option; a taxi from Gwalior to Jhansi is straightforward on the national highway.
Buses connect Jhansi to most major Bundelkhand towns. The Uttar Pradesh Roadways terminus is adjacent to the railway station.
