Jhansi's food is Bundelkhand home cooking — robust, wheat-based, and heavier than you might expect in a hot climate. Dal bafla (dumplings baked over coal, then dipped in ghee and eaten with dal) is the signature dish of the region and worth seeking out at a proper sit-down place rather than a dhaba. Street food around the fort bazaar is good value: chaat, kachori, and the local variant of puri-sabzi. Most visitors eat in their hotels; the better places are around Sipri Road and the Civil Lines area.
