Orchha is the reason many travellers stop in Jhansi at all. The ruined Bundela capital, 17 kilometres away across the Betwa River, is compact enough to cover in a day but rich enough to justify staying overnight if your schedule allows. The Jahangir Mahal, Raj Mahal with its frescoed rooms, and the cenotaphs on the riverbank are standout Mughal-Rajput architecture in an almost cinematically beautiful setting. Start early to have the monuments before the day-trip crowds arrive.
Orchha technically sits in Madhya Pradesh, not Uttar Pradesh, but it is accessed via Jhansi and has no meaningful transport connection to any other town.
