Nana Rao Park is one of Kanpur's main public gardens and the most loaded historical space in the city. During the 1857 uprising, this area was associated with the Bibighar killings and the brutal British reprisals that followed. Under British rule it was treated as a memorial landscape; after independence it was renamed for Nana Sahib, the rebel leader connected with Cawnpore.
Today it is a leafy, busy urban park with statues, paths, and local families using it like any other city garden. That ordinary life sitting on top of difficult history is precisely what makes it worth visiting. Read a little before you go; otherwise the site can look deceptively plain.
