Gomti Nagar

Gomti Nagar is the modern face of Lucknow — a planned suburb laid out across the Gomti from the old city in the 1980s, now the home of the state government's new administrative buildings, the Ambedkar Memorial Park, Janeshwar Mishra Park, the city's cinema multiplexes, and most of its better mid-range hotels and restaurants.

The character is suburban Indian rather than historic — wide roads, glass-fronted offices, planned commercial centres — but it is also where contemporary Lucknow happens. The Phoenix Palassio and Lulu Mall shopping centres are here. The High Court and the Vidhan Sabha building straddle its western edge. For a balanced visit to Lucknow plan to spend at least one evening on this side of the river.
