Indira Gandhi Planetarium

The Indira Gandhi Planetarium is a Saturn-shaped building on the banks of the Gomti — a 21-metre dome painted to imitate the ringed planet, supported on stubby columns that double as exhibition halls. It opened in 2003 and contains one of the largest planetariums in Asia, with a hybrid optical-and-digital projection system imported from Japan.

Shows run several times a day in Hindi and English, last about forty minutes each, and rotate through a small catalogue covering the solar system, deep-sky objects, and Indian astronomy traditions. Buy tickets at the gate; the building itself is worth a circuit on foot for the sheer oddness of an architectural Saturn on the river bank.
