Nehru Park sits on the bank of the Damodar river at Burnpur, a green strip of lawns, paths, and a children's playground that is essentially the public garden of the steelworks township. On a Sunday afternoon it fills with families from the surrounding company quarters and from central Asansol.
It is most pleasant in winter (November–February) when the air is clearer and the river is high. There is a small boating lake and a couple of food stalls; the riverside walk in the early evening is the quietest part.
