Benachity Bazaar is Durgapur's old market district, a 2–3 km strip of shops, stalls, and restaurants that predates the steel city's planned residential townships. It has the organic density and bustle that the malls have tried and failed to replicate. The range of goods is impressive: textiles, electronics, fresh produce, household items, and several strong food options.
The biryani at Koh-i-noor in Benachity has a local reputation that outlasts most restaurant trends — ask any Durgapur resident where to eat and you'll hear this name. The street food around the bazaar, particularly fish curry with rice from small Bengali places, is the most honest eating you'll find in the city. If you're passing through Durgapur and have an hour, this is a more interesting stop than the malls.
