Dhameshwar Mahaprabhu Mandir

A second important Chaitanya temple a short walk south-east of Poramatala, on the bank of the Bhagirathi. The deity here is a black-stone image believed by some Gaudiya traditions to be the original one installed by Vishnupriya, Chaitanya's widow, after his death.

The temple is calmer and less commercial than Poramatala. The flat ghat in front is one of the better places in town to sit and watch the river traffic. Open dawn to noon and four to nine.
