Eating Out

Nabadwip's eating scene is built around its sweet shops and the prasad canteens at the temples. As a Vaishnava pilgrimage town, the food is overwhelmingly vegetarian and onion-and-garlic-free in the most traditional places. The town has two famous local sweets that are reason enough to visit: Nabadwip-er lal doi, the deep red sweetened yoghurt set in clay pots, and kheer-er chop, dense balls of condensed milk fried in ghee.

For meals, the bhojanalays around the main ghats serve substantial thalis for ₹100-200 — rice, dal, sabji, chutney, sometimes a sweet. ISKCON Mayapur runs a large multi-cuisine restaurant for visitors that takes international tastes into account.
