Jalan Kayu Aya (Eat Street)

Jalan Kayu Aya — universally known as Eat Street — runs east from Petitenget Temple inland through the heart of Seminyak. It is the densest concentration of restaurants on the island: Japanese ramen bars, Italian trattorias, Spanish tapas, Indonesian fine dining, and a thousand cocktails between them.

Interspersed with the restaurants are Bali's best independent boutiques — leather goods, swimwear, jewellery, and the kind of expensive home decor that local designers do well. The stretch is at its best from late afternoon onward; by 9 p.m. the foot traffic, scooters, and waiting taxis make it slow going on a busy night.
