Cirebon is a predominantly Muslim city and alcohol is not widely available outside hotels. The café culture, however, is genuine. A growing number of specialty coffee shops have opened in the newer parts of town, serving good Arabica and local roasts. The older parts of the city have traditional warung kopi — simple coffee stalls where a glass of sweet black coffee and a fried snack is the typical order, and the morning hours are the busiest.
