Depok eats young. The Margonda Raya corridor running north–south through the city is lined with food courts, warungs, and chain restaurants catering to the student population — expect Indonesian standards (gado-gado, nasi padang, soto Betawi), bubble tea, and Korean fried chicken at prices well below central Jakarta. The Detos and Margocity malls have the largest concentrations of indoor food courts and air conditioning if the heat gets too much.
Beyond Margonda, the Beji area near the UI campus has a string of small Padang-style places that are popular with faculty for lunch. Worth seeking out is gulai ikan patin, a Sumatran fish curry that several Padang restaurants here do well.
