Getting Around

Sorong sprawls along eight kilometres of coast and is too spread out to walk. The cheapest way around is by ojek (motorbike taxi) — flag them down on the main road or ask at your hotel. Short hops cost around 10,000 IDR; from the centre to the airport is around 30,000–50,000 IDR.

Bemo minivans run set routes for a flat fare of around 5,000 IDR. They are crowded but cover most of the town. Grab and Gojek both operate in Sorong with car and bike options — useful if you have luggage or are unsure of fares.

If you are heading to the airport or the Waisai ferry with a heavy bag, agree the fare in advance with an ojek or take a Grab car. Traffic is light by Indonesian standards and journeys rarely take more than 20 minutes.
