Sorong is the gateway to Raja Ampat and the main air and sea hub for West Papua. Domine Eduard Osok Airport (SOQ) has daily flights from Jakarta, Makassar, Manado, and Ambon — Garuda, Batik Air, and Lion Air all serve the route. Flights from Jakarta take around four hours via a stop in Makassar or Manado.
The Pelni passenger ships also call here on their long-distance routes between Jakarta, Surabaya, Makassar, and Jayapura. Schedules are infrequent — typically one ship a week — but the fares are a fraction of flying and the journey is genuinely memorable. The Pelni booking office is at the port.
The ferry to Waisai in Raja Ampat leaves from the same port complex twice a day, usually at 09:00 and 14:00. The crossing takes about two hours. Buy your ticket on the morning of travel; arrive at least 45 minutes early as it can sell out.
