Things to Do

Gunungsitoli's main cultural draw is the Museum Pusaka Nias, one of the finest ethnographic collections in Sumatra. Beyond that, the city rewards slow wandering: the waterfront park, the earthquake monument, and the old missionary quarter in the south all tell different chapters of the same story. For traditional Nias culture in full — stone-jumping, omo sebua longhouses, megalithic stone avenues — you need to travel south, but the museum gives you the vocabulary to understand what you're looking at when you get there.
