Getting There

Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport (PLM) is about 15 km northwest of the centre and has frequent flights from Jakarta (about 1 hour), Batam, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur. A taxi or Grab into town takes around 30 minutes outside rush hour.

Long-distance trains run south from Lampung's Tanjung Karang station and terminate at Kertapati on the south bank of the Musi River — a slow but scenic alternative for travellers coming from the south of the island. The Trans-Sumatra Highway runs through Palembang; long-distance buses from Jakarta, Padang, and Medan are gruelling but cheap.
