Ardabil has a small airport with daily flights to and from Tehran. By road, the city is about four hours from Tabriz over a good highway, or roughly six hours from Tehran via Qazvin and Zanjan. From the Caspian coast, the road climbs up through the Talesh Mountains via Astara — a slower but spectacular drive. Long-distance buses serve all major Iranian cities; the bus terminal is on the southern edge of the city.
