Ardabil's main draw is the UNESCO-listed Sheikh Safi al-Din shrine in the heart of the old city, but the surrounding landscape — Mount Sabalan, Shorabil Lake, and the Sarein hot springs to the west — adds up to several days of worthwhile exploration. Most travellers come for the shrine, the carpets, and the cool mountain air.
