The restaurant inside the Abbasi Hotel — a converted seventeenth-century caravanserai just off Chaharbagh Boulevard — is one of the most atmospheric places to eat in Isfahan. The interior courtyard, with its ornamental pool and flowering gardens, is open in summer; in winter the enclosed dining rooms are decorated with traditional Persian tilework and ornamental plasterwork. The menu covers Iranian classics: lamb kebabs, fesenjan (pomegranate and walnut stew), and ghormeh sabzi (herb stew). Prices are high by Iranian standards, and the hotel caters heavily to international visitors, but the setting is difficult to match in any other country in the world. Book ahead for dinner.
