Isfahan is well connected to the rest of Iran by air, rail, and road.
By air: Isfahan International Airport (IFN) is 23 km south of the city and receives flights from Tehran (around an hour), Mashhad, and several other Iranian cities. Taxis from the airport to the city centre take around 30–40 minutes depending on traffic.
By train: Iran Railways operates overnight sleeper services from Tehran (around 7–8 hours) and connections from Shiraz, Yazd, and other cities. The train station is south of the city centre.
By bus: Frequent express coaches run from Tehran's southern bus terminal (around 4–5 hours) and from Shiraz (around 5–6 hours). The main bus terminal is on the western edge of the city.
Getting into the centre: Once you arrive, taxis are the most practical option for getting to your accommodation. The city has a metro system but it does not yet serve the main tourist areas well.
