The Garden of Paradise is one of the finest surviving Persian gardens, a Unesco World Heritage site set on the northwestern edge of the city. Tall cypresses, fragrant myrtles, roses, and a long reflecting pool lead up to a Qajar-era pavilion that now belongs to Shiraz University. The proportions and planting are exactly what Persian garden design was meant to achieve: a contained paradise, perfectly ordered, with shade and water at its centre.
Visit in spring when the roses are in bloom.
