The Bazaar-e Vakil is the main place to shop in Shiraz, and one of the best in Iran. The carpet section is famous — Qashqai and Khamseh tribal rugs from the surrounding mountains are sold here at prices well below Tehran or Isfahan, though you will still need to bargain hard and inspect carefully. The Saray Moshir caravanserai inside the bazaar has the most concentrated selection.
Other Shiraz specialities to look for: rose water and rose syrup from the spring rose harvest around Qamsar and Maymand; saffron (cheaper here than at home, but check the colour — it should be deep red with no yellow filaments); traditional knives with bone or wood handles; and locally produced silver filigree jewellery.
