Shiraz is one of the better eating cities in Iran. The local cuisine leans on fresh herbs, citrus, and slow-cooked stews, and the city's love of food is unselfconscious. Two dishes are local signatures: kalam polo Shirazi (rice with cabbage, meatballs, and a long list of herbs) and Shirazi salad (cucumber, tomato, onion, mint, lime — eaten everywhere in Iran but said to be best at the source).
You will also find very good kebab, faloodeh (the chilled rice-noodle dessert that originated near here), and excellent fresh bread from neighbourhood bakeries throughout the day. Most restaurants do not serve alcohol; Iranian beer is alcohol-free.
