Bagh-e Jahan Nama

Small octagonal pavilion garden on the road to the Tomb of Hafez

Jahan Nama — "World-Showing" — is one of the oldest gardens in Shiraz, with origins in the late 13th century. The present form is largely a 19th-century Qajar reworking around a central octagonal pavilion, which Karim Khan had earlier used as a guesthouse.

It is small and easy to overlook — most travellers walk straight past on their way to the Tomb of Hafez next door. But the garden's compact symmetry, with cypress avenues converging on the pavilion and a square pool in front, is in some ways a purer example of the classical Persian garden than the larger and more famous Bagh-e Eram.
