Saraye Mehr

Atmospheric courtyard restaurant tucked into the Saray Moshir caravanserai

The Saray Moshir is a beautifully restored 19th-century caravanserai just off the Vakil Bazaar, now home to several shops, a hotel, and the Saraye Mehr restaurant on the upper floor. The dining room overlooks a small inner courtyard with a fountain and orange trees.

The menu covers the standard Iranian repertoire — kebabs, herb stews, saffron rice — and the kitchen does it carefully. The atmosphere is what brings travellers in: a quiet, low-lit room behind brick arcades, a long way from the noise of the bazaar outside.
