St Joseph's Church stands adjacent to the Basilica of the Annunciation and is built over a site traditionally identified as the workshop or home of Joseph, Jesus' adoptive father. The current church dates from 1914 and is administered by the Franciscans alongside the basilica. The lower level preserves rock-cut caves and storage chambers from the first century that give a concrete sense of what domestic space looked like in Roman-period Nazareth.
It is smaller and quieter than the main basilica and often overlooked by pilgrims who come only for the Annunciation site. Worth a brief visit to see the underground chambers.
