The Roman port city of Caesarea, about 30 km north along the coast, is the obvious day trip — one of the most rewarding archaeological sites in Israel. The Sharon Plain inland offers nature reserves, wineries, and the Alexander River's softshell turtles. Tel Aviv is half an hour south by train if you want a night out.
