Mount Yarigatake

Mount Yarigatake is one of the sharpest and most recognisable peaks in the Northern Japan Alps. Its name means Spear Mountain, and the final pyramid-shaped summit makes the nickname feel earned rather than romantic.

This is a serious mountain objective, not a casual lookout. Travellers usually approach it as a hut-based alpine hike from the Matsumoto side or from Oku-Hida, with weather, snow, and route conditions deciding whether the climb is sensible.
