Shinhotaka Ropeway climbs from Shin-Hotaka Onsen into the Northern Japan Alps in two stages, gaining more than a thousand metres in about twenty minutes. The ride itself is part of the draw, crossing forested slopes and opening wider mountain views as it rises.
At the upper station, clear days bring broad views across the alpine ridges around Nishihotaka. Short viewpoints suit casual visitors, while hikers can use the ropeway as a high starting point for more serious mountain routes.
