Takasugi Shinsaku's Birthplace marks the early home of one of Hagi's most important late-Edo figures. Takasugi trained at Shoka Sonjuku and later formed the Kiheitai, a militia that recruited commoners as well as samurai and helped push Choshu toward the Meiji Restoration.
It is a small stop rather than a full museum, but it fits naturally into a walk through Hagi Castle Town. Visit it with the former samurai residences and Shokasonjuku Academy to understand why this quiet town produced so many revolutionaries.
