Tokoji is one of Hagi's most atmospheric temples, with gates and buildings that show a strong Chinese influence. Behind the temple, Mori clan graves stand among hundreds of stone lanterns, turning the hillside into a quiet display of old domain power.
It is a short walk from Shoin Shrine and pairs well with it. The two together show Hagi's range: feudal authority at Tokoji, restless reform energy around Shoin.
