Akashi Kaikyo Bridge

Akashi Kaikyo Bridge is the vast suspension bridge linking Kobe with Awaji Island across the Akashi Strait. When it opened in 1998, its 1,991-metre main span was the longest in the world, and it still feels enormous when seen from the waterfront below.

The bridge is best appreciated from the Kobe side around Maiko, where you can get close views of the towers and the traffic streaming over the strait. It is especially striking after dark, when the cables and towers are lit.
