Okochi Sanso is the former mountain retreat of silent-film actor Okochi Denjiro, set above Arashiyama with carefully kept gardens and views across Kyoto. The grounds are especially beautiful in autumn, but the paths, teahouse, and hillside setting make it worthwhile in most seasons.
It pairs naturally with the Bamboo Grove and Tenryu-ji, and offers a calmer, more composed stop once you move beyond the busiest part of Arashiyama.
