Kizakura is one of the three major Fushimi sake breweries, known outside Japan for its kappa goblin mascot on the label. The brewery's Kappa Country complex combines a sake tasting bar, a garden restaurant serving beer-battered tofu and sake-steamed crab, and a small museum dedicated to kappa folklore from Japanese literature and art.
The setting -- a reconstructed garden compound around a central kura warehouse -- is more relaxed than the Gekkeikan museum and better suited to a meal than a quick tasting. The beer brewed on-site from Fushimi water is underrated and worth trying alongside the sake.
