Roppongi houses three major contemporary art institutions within walking distance of each other — a concentration of museum quality that rivals any district in the world. The Mori Art Museum occupies the 53rd floor of Mori Tower with panoramic city views plus major international exhibitions. The National Art Center, designed by Kisho Kurokawa with a wave-form glass facade, hosts rotating exhibitions of Japanese art in a stunning building. The Suntory Museum of Art focuses on Japanese traditional crafts.
Each charges its own admission. Combine two in a day and save the third for another visit. The Mori Art Museum (open until 10pm most nights) is particularly dramatic after dark, the exhibition space floating above the lit city.
