Almost all visitors arrive through Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport, the country's only commercial airport, located 16 km south of central Beirut. The national carrier is Middle East Airlines (MEA), which flies to major cities across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. European carriers including Air France, Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa also serve Beirut. Flight time from London is about 4 hours 40 minutes, from Paris about 4 hours.
From the airport, taxis to central Beirut cost around $20-30 and take 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. A public bus service also runs to the city centre. Uber and Careem are both available.
By sea, Lebanon's ports include Beirut, Jounieh, Tripoli, Sidon and Tyre. A ferry connection between Larnaca (Cyprus) and Jounieh has been announced, though services have been intermittent over the years -- check before counting on it. Cruise ships occasionally call at Beirut.
By road, the main overland route is from Syria via the Beirut-Damascus highway or the northern coastal road through Tripoli. Border crossings have been subject to closures and restrictions, so check current conditions. There is no rail service in Lebanon.
