Lost World of Tambun

The Lost World of Tambun is a strange and rather wonderful theme-park-and-water-park-and-hot-spring resort tucked between the limestone karsts on the eastern edge of Ipoh in the suburb of Tambun. It mixes a standard tropical water park (slides, lazy river, wave pool) with thermal hot springs fed by natural geothermal activity, a small zoo, a tin-mining heritage area and a petting zoo — all set against the dramatic backdrop of the karst hills.

The hot springs and night zone, with the karsts uplit and the water steaming, are the highlights — best to come in the late afternoon and stay through the evening. Allow a full day with children. Tickets are not cheap by Malaysian standards but combined day-plus-night passes are good value.
